Manchester United finally completed their hunt for the “Chilean Wonder” Alexis Sanchez, as the former Arsenal midfielder signs a four and half year contract with the Red Devils while Armenian national team captain Henrik Mkhitaryan will join Arsenal on a three and a half year contract as part of a swap deal between the clubs. The Chilean midfielder who was very close to sign a deal with Manchester City last summer had to stay back at Arsenal, because the club’s manager Arsene Wenger couldn’t find a suitable replacement for him. Manchester City finally backed off from the battle this January, when they came to the realisation that Manchester United’s manager Jose Mourinho is looking to bag the star in his squad. Wenger would be slightly relieved as the midfielder’s contract ends this summer which will make him eligible for a free transfer. Alexis Sanchez has offered tremendous contributions in his three and a half year career at emirates, with a total of 165 appearances, 80 goals and 40 assists for the club. He had a flying start in Arsenal as helped the team defeat arch rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield. He has scored twice at the Wembley Stadium helping Arsenal win the FA Cup in 2015 and 2017. Sanchez has received the “Arsenal player of the season Year” award twice in his tenure for the club. Meanwhile Arsenal’s failure to finish in the top four of the premier league and qualify for the champion’s league this season, gave him second thoughts about staying in the club.Alexis Sanchez will be receiving the highest wages compared to any other player in the premier league with an outstanding salary of 505,000 pounds per week. This is what the midfielder had to say, “I am fulfilling a dream that I have since I was a kid: to play for the world’s best team. ” While Alexis Sanchez is ecstatic on move to Arsenal’s main rivals, his former teammates did not have much to say as only one of his teammates posted a farewell message to him on social media. Critics argue the reason Alexis did not get a pleasant goodbye like Theo Walcott who also departed Arsenal recently is because of the tension he had with some of the team’s players who felt he carried a bad attitude and inappropriate on-field behaviour.
