Martin Luther King Jr. should be remembered as a genius because of his various protests and marches that lead to success for the African American community which is still valued till today. The work of King Jr. resulted in some of the most landmark legislations, such as the advancement in the passage of the Civil Rights Act as well as The Voting Rights Act. Through the passing of these acts which are recognized world wide, it is evident on the effectiveness as well as genius ways of Martin Luther King Jr. In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. worked with a number of civil rights and religious groups and organized what is known as the March on Washington. This march was aimed to shed light on the injustices faced by the African American community everyday across the country especially within the frame of jobs and freedoms. The march was held on the 28th of August, around 300,000 people took part in this march. Later that day, he gave his famous speech “I have a dream”, this speech and march enhanced Kings reputation locally as well as internationally, later that year he was named “Man of the year” by TIME magazine. His profile drew in more international attention and was later the youngest man to win the nobel peace prize. This event had a factor in the Civil rights Act of 1964, it played a big role in the African American community as it outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Secondly, in an effort to register black voters in the South, protesters marching the 54-mile route from Selma to the state capital of Montgomery they were faced with violence during this march and on the 3rd day they reached Montgomery. This march raised awareness through Martin Luther King Jr. on the difficulties faced by black voters lacking a National Voting Rights Act. President Lyndon Johnson addressed a joint session of Congress, calling for federal voting rights legislation to protect African Americans from barriers they may face, the congress passed the Voting Rights Act. The literacy test which was to be taken by voters was banned. The differences between the black and white voters was greatly reduced as well as African Americans were now given a chance to participate in politics and governance. Clearly all this is mainly due to Martin Luther King Jr. and his arranging of all these rallies and protests as well as this march.Therefore it is clearly evident that Martin Luther King Jr. is indeed a genius. King is known for his use of peaceful non- violent protests and marches Through his rhetoric way of speech and his non violent march and protests, he was able to bring about a change in the positive way for the African American community.
